Adam A7X and Adam A77X are both studio monitor speakers produced by the same manufacturer. Adam’s AX-series speakers are immensely popular on the market because of their exceptional performance and quality. Now, you are most probably wondering what the differences are between Adam A7X and Adam A77X, two speakers with very similar names yet also very different prices. Adam A77X is quite considerably more expensive than Adam A7X. So, which model should you choose, Adam A7X or Adam A77X?
Despite the similar names, these two speakers have been designed quite differently from each other. While Adam A7X is a typical vertical speaker with a single mid-woofer, Adam A77X is a horizontal speaker featuring a pair of subwoofers. Hence, as the effect, Adam A77X is significantly bigger and bulkier and heavier. Nevertheless, all the woofers are 7” in size, with carbon/rohacell/fiberglass cones, powered by 100-W PWM amps. Each of the two models also features a single 2.0-inch X-ART tweeter driven by a 50-W A/B amp. They also come with similar housing materials. Both have been made to be extremely sturdy and rugged, able to stand against intensive heavy-duty usage.
Since it is coming with two subwoofers, Adam A77X certainly sounds more powerful. Adam A77X is easily the one with superior output levels. It can deliver loud volume levels while keeping the sounds full, solid, and articulate. It also has a frequency response range of 38 Hz – 50 kHz, which, when combined with the subwoofers, allows for astonishing bass performance. The low end is strong yet clear. However, when making slight adjustments on the midrange and treble, the changes can be easier to notice on Adam A7X. Apparently, this is because Adam A7X only comes with a single woofer; as the effect, the lows don not cover the mids and highs too much. With a frequency response range of 42 Hz – 50 kHz, Adam A7X can be more revealing to show changes on adjustments.
Additionally, Adam A77X comes with a higher maximum SPL handling. With the powerful, compression-free audio reproduction and excellent radiation characteristics, Adam A77X is suitable for nearfield as well as midfield monitoring. On the other hand, Adam A7X’s maximum SPL handling is a little bit lower. It makes a balanced and versatile speaker for nearfield monitoring.
