A lot of people have faced the same question, due to the excellent value that each of the two products possesses. They both are boasting similar plus points, similar key features, and even the same connectivity. Uh, well, of course, they both have the same connectivity, we end up choosing between these two products because we are looking for a decent USB microphone, anyway. Nonetheless, it is worth mentioning that Audio-Technica AT2020 USB is most often than not being priced more affordably than Rode NT-USB. The difference can be as significant as several dozens of bucks, and depending on our budget plan, this can be not-so-trivial.

Rode NT-USB Vs AT2020

Rode NT-USB is a USB condenser microphone with cardioid polar pattern, so it picks up sounds best from the front side and attenuates sounds from other angles. It is powered through the USB bus as well. The primary output is USB, but there is a 3.5 mm jack available that will allow you to monitor the audio directly, latency-free. This addition is very handy if you are working in a professional environment, when you need to monitor and control the audio real-time as accurate as possible. Moreover, Rode NT-USB has an ultra-low noise. It typically sounds bright, powerful, and detailed, making it very versatile and viable for various kinds of usage, from vocals, instruments, to podcasting and voice-over. Audio-Technica AT2020 USB
Audio-Technica AT2020 USB is pretty much similar to Rode NT-USB, being a USB condenser microphone with cardioid polar pattern. It comes at a considerably lower price than Rode NT-USB, but you can definitely notice some compromises here and there. First, there is no 3.5 mm jack, so there is no way to monitor audio real-time and latency-free. Second, it has a shorter frequency response range, with a lower edge on the high-frequency area, so it doesn’t handle high frequency as good. Third, it has a lower sample rate. It comes with 16-bit/44.1-kHz resolution, while Rode NT-USB has 16-bit/48-kHz. As the effect, though Audio-Technica AT2020 USB sounds bright and powerful also, it is not as accurate and detailed as Rode NT-USB.
