Design
In terms of design, Shure SRH440 has a slightly better edge than Audio Technica ATH M50. There are several reasons. The first one that can immediately be understood is the cable – Shure SRH440 comes with a detachable 1/8” coiled audio cable, allowing for easy storage and travel. With a detachable cable, you can prevent tangling and other issues common to happen to undetachable audio cables. The bayonet clip system securely locks the cable into the ear cup when ported. With 44-ohm impedance, you can still wear it just fine without any amp, though the volume levels are relatively not as loud. However, Shure SRH440 offers much better sound staging.
