Tascam is a one of the most trusted brands when we talk about digital portable studio products. Before we enter into the in-depth discussion here, perhaps you would be interested with Tascam DP 03 Vs Zoom R8 if you are seeking something with faders and pan knobs! This time, in the following article, we are going to analyze two digital portastudio products from the manufacturer, which are Tascam DP-006 and Tascam DP-008. These are excellent choices if you are a beginner in using a digital portastudio, as they are very easy to be understood and used, and very intuitive. However, one will suit you better than the other, depending on your need and requirements.
Tascam DP-006 is the cheaper model between the two. It offers six recording tracks, consisting of two mono tracks and two stereo/mono switchable tracks. It can perform simultaneous recording for two tracks, which is handy is you want to record a stereo sample. Yet, it can perform simultaneous playback for all the six tracks. Tascam DP-006 comes with two built-in omnidirectional condenser mics, which are very handy if your external mics get into a problem, and the sensitivity of the mics can be adjusted as well into one of the three levels: low, mid, and high. It comes with two TRS ¼” line inputs and a 15mW/ch headphone output. You can manage each track separately and independently, as each track is given each own balance knobs. On the right area, you can see a jog-wheel for direct-locate function, and there are other editing features like cut, silence, clone track, and clean out. It works with an SD or SDHC memory card up to 32 GB; a 2 GB card included.
Tascam DP-008 is slightly more expensive than Tascam DP-006, yet it comes with more punches! Tascam DP-008 boasts 8 total tracks (hence the name), also with two-track simultaneous recording capability. It comes with two XLR inputs with phantom power, two ¼” line inputs, RCA line outputs, and 1/8” stereo headphone output. Quite similarly, it features separate and individual controls for each track, with level, pan, and 2-band EQ for each channel. It comes with built-in chromatic tuner and metronome, stereo reverb effects, also various editing functions. It works with an SD or SDHC memory card up to 32 GB; a 2 GB card included.
