Tascam is one notable manufacturer of portable digital audio recorders. The manufacturer has produced a number of high-quality products, praised on the market because of the excellent features and good durability. Most probably, you are currently hesitating in choosing between two Tascam models, Tascam DR 22 WL and Tascam DR 05. The two are standing in the same price range, but it is worth a note that Tascam DR 22 WL is slightly more expensive than Tascam DR 05. Which one should you choose?
Tascam DR 22 WL
Tascam DR 22 WL is a digital audio recorder featuring automatic track creation and Wi-Fi connectivity. Relying on the 2.4 GHz frequency, it is able to transfer data as well as to stream recording to another device wirelessly. It has a free software for iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows, acting as a controller for the wireless features. Tascam DR 22 WL records in 24-bit/96kHz maximum quality, which is certainly sufficient for most casual and professional purposes. When recording, it can automatically create a new track to continue the session once the current track has reached a certain threshold. This is a hugely beneficial feature for long recording sessions. It has a USB 2.0 port for data transfer and a memory card slot. There are stereo condenser microphones arranged in an X/Y pattern and a 1/8” stereo mic input with plug-in power and dedicated gain level control. There are various additional features, such as a low-cut filter, a tempo changer without changing the pitch, reverb, and some on-board editing functions.
Tascam DR 05
In many ways, Tascam DR 05 can be quite identical to Tascam DR 22WL, yet there are indeed some distinctions as well. Coming at a lower price, Tascam DR 05 lacks the wireless connectivity. It also features a pair of on-board stereo condenser microphones, but the polar pattern is omnidirectional. It has a stereo mic/line input with plug-in power as well, and records in 24-bit/96kHz maximum quality. It also comes with a USB 2.0 port and a memory card slot. There are some similar additional features, too, including a variable speed playback without pitch change, loop and repeat, playback EQ setting, chromatic tuner, limiter and low-cut filter, also the auto and manual track increment.
